We are a jodō dōjo in Rolleston, Canterbury established in 2018 with the permission of our sensei in Japan. We enjoy a direct connecton with the Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei (ZNKR) through relationships with our sensei and his dōjo. We are honored to be part of this relationship as being directly connected to Japan brings a mix of legitimacy, privilege and responsibility. We strongly believe in preserving this connection and encourage our members to understand that to be part of this lineage and legitimacy is an honour that comes with a strong obligation of reigi and correct action.

Jodō is suitable for anyone, male, female, young or old. As the wooden weapons are relatively light and jodō does not incorporate many hard strikes to the body, practice is safe and comfortable for a wide range of people. Where jodō is difficult is in reigi, which is quite strict, and in techniques which rely on strong ki and accurate movements. Training both in NZ and in Japan is friendly and supportive though, and we build a good community as well as a strong dōjo. Jodō is great for training the body and the mind, whatever your present condition and jodō is often said to be the epitome of budō.
